Idea Cellular launch Idea 4G VoLTE Phone

Reliance’s plan to bring 2G feature phone users to 4G VoLTE networks may be disrupted by Idea Cellular. Soon to be acquired by the telecom giant – Vodafone, Idea is also planning to launch a cheap VoLTE phone, but with more features and freedom of choice. This is a direct confrontation with Reliance Jio’sJioPhone, which is a 4G feature phone.

When will the phone be released?

Idea is presently set to be acquired by Vodafone. The talks of the merger are in progress. The phone will probably be released after the merger. This will allow the device to have better network coverage. VoLTE is relatively new in the country and infrastructure still does not exist properly. However, most telecom operators are gearing up to provide VoLTE access in the urban regions.

It will still take a year to bring VoLTE coverage at par with 3G coverage nationwide. However, the phone will be released much before that. Idea Cellular is presently looking for the feature set that the phone will have, it’s feasibility and the entire payment model that is associated with procuring the phone. All in all, the phone will not be available before 2018.

What are the advantages of Idea 4G VoLTE phone?

Idea, with their VoLTE phone, is trying to address the shortcomings of the JioPhone. First of all, these phones will not disrupt the market. Even though Reliance Jio’s free phone made headlines on release day, the phone ends up being more expensive than it apparently seems.

First of all, JioPhone is a feature phone. You will have to pay Rs. 1500 to get the phone, which will be refunded after three years. Now, most people do not use phones for three years at a stretch. Also, after three years, when you get back Rs 1500, its monetary value will be lower than what is was three years earlier. Moreover, when you recharge with Rs. 309, the user will not be able to use the data as freely as a smartphone user because of device limitations. This, eventually, makes the device less practical to own.

Idea 4G VoLTE Mobile Phone Price

This is where Idea’s phone comes in. Idea plans to allow users to simply purchase at Rs. 2500. It will run on Android or any other forked version of Android that can run Android apps. Users will not be locked into using services from the operator only. Moreover, it may feature Wi-Fi connectivity. This seems to be a more practical and an economical choice.
